About
AG. EDUCATION COURSE DESCRIPTIONS 2007-2008 Ag/Natural Resources-Introduction Offered as a year long course to those students interested in Agriculture, Agribusiness,
Leadership and the FFA. This course is an introduction to
agricultural education, agribusiness, the FFA and Leadership. Areas of studies
are range management, soil and water management. Students will have the opportunity to
participate in the Area Land Judging and Range Judging Contest. FFA leadership
activities include parliamentary procedure and the opportunity to participate
in the FFA Leadership Skills Events. An introduction to animal science and
livestock evaluation is also included in this course of study. Students will
have the opportunity to become FFA members and participate in State and National FFA activities. District VI Livestock Judging Contest, District VI Career Development Events and the State FFA Convention and
State Career Development Events are activities that students will have the opportunities to attend. Students will be introduced to a computerized record keeping system.
Ag. / Natural Resouces-Animal Science
This
course of study includes a unit of instruction on range management and soil and
water conservation. The students will have the opportunity to attend and
participate in the area land judging and range judging contests. The students
enrolled in this class will also be given the leadership opportunity to
participate in the District VI FFA Leadership Skills Events. Farm business
management curriculum is centered around Future Commodity Trading and the
students will be introduced to a Commodity Trading Game. Animal science
curriculum will include a more intensified study of livestock evaluation, and a
study of livestock diseases and management. Students will be completing
financial record books and will have the opportunity to fill out proficiency
award applications using these financial records. The study of crop science
and food production is included in the second semester of this course.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in the District VI Livestock
Judging Contest, the District VI Career Development Events and the State FFA
Convention and State Career Development Contests. A unit of instruction is
included on the proper use of the wood working power equipment and students
will be required to construct a wood working project of their choice. Ag. Natural Resouces-Plant Science
This
course is for students interested in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Leadership and
the FFA. This course of study includes a unit of instruction on range management
and soil and water conservation. The students will have the opportunity to
attend and participate in the area land judging and range judging contests.
The students enrolled in this class will also be given the leadership
opportunity to participate in the District VI FFA Leadership Skills Events.
Other units of study include: building construction (rafter framing, plumbing,
both copper sweating and PVC pipe use, electrical wiring, arc, oxy-acetylene
and MIG welding), Claris CAD and small engine maintenance and repair.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in the District VI Livestock
Judging Contest, the District VI Career Development Events and the State FFA
Convention and State Career Development Events. Students will be completing financial
record books and will have the opportunity in filling out proficiency award
applications using these financial records. Ag. /Natural Resources-Ag. Management
This
course of study is an Agricultural Business Management Course. Students
enrolled will be involved in farm business management curriculum that includes
inventory, net worth statements, profit and loss statements, enterprise
budgets, partial budgets and cash flow. A natural resource curriculum is also
studied to acquaint students with the importance of our natural resources to
the economy of Palmer, Nebraska, the USA and the world. The students will have
the opportunity to attend and participate in the area land judging and range
judging contests. The students enrolled in this class will also be given the leadership
opportunity to participate in the District VI FFA Leadership Skills Events.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in the District VI Livestock
Judging Contest, the District VI Career Development Events and the State FFA
Convention and State Career Development Events. Those students who have been
FFA members for at least 2 years and have met the minimum requirements will
have the opportunity to apply for the State FFA Degree. Students will be
completing financial record books and will have the opportunity in filling out
proficiency award applications using these financial records. Ag. Explores
First semester is a class required of 8th grade students. It includes an introduction to the Palmer Ag. Education classes. It is an over view of the FFA organization, Animal Science, Plant Science and Ag. mechanics. Students will have the opportunity to construct a project of either wood or metal. 2nd semester is a class required of 7th grade students. It includes a Hunter Safety unit where students can be certified as a Graduate of a Hunter Education course. An introduction to shop safety and woodworking is part of the 3rd nine weeks .
TECH PREP
Students who complete and receive an A or B in all of the Ag.
Education/Natural Resources classes(THEY MUST HAVE BEEN ENROLLED IN all of THESE 4 COURSES)
would receive 7 hours credit free If they enroll at CCC an their course of
study is in Agriculture
Ag.
Mechanics-Natural Resources
This
course is for students who are highly motivated to complete projects of
their choosing in the Agricultural Mechanics area. Such projects are, but are
not limited to, woodworking, welding, automotive and agricultural power. The
prerequisite for this course is Ag. Ed. III or by special permission from the
instructor. Applied
Construction /Ag. Woods (Limit 15
students) This
Ag. Education course is for studentsinterested in the agricultural
buildings trade industry. This course is designed to train students in the
building construction trade by completing various community and school
improvement projects. Students will be trained in the area of concrete and
masonry, building construction, building layout, building framing, floor
tiling, electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry and welding. Students who are
enrolled in this course are required to be self-motivated, trustworthy and
dependable.
