I expect all students in their desks when the bell rings or
they are tardy. I follow the handbook rules on tardiness.
Students are not allowed to interrupt class for bathroom or
to get drinks. Any emergencies will be handled individually.
No eating or drinking is allowed unless specified by me for
a humanities project.
If a substitute has problems with an individual, I usually
double detentions.
All homework is due when assigned, or I’ll help a
student on an individual basis before or after school. If a student is absent,
he has one day for each missed day to make up work. It is to each
student’s advantage to call a friend so she is ready for class when
returning to school.
Cheating results in zeros on tests or homework. Parents
will be notified if a student cheats.
Finally, I expect students to respect each other’s
writing and feelings when shared in groups for editing purposes.
Grading:
I grade on a point system. Daily reading quizzes and
homework are usually ten points with major test and project grades worth one
hundred points. Check off grades are used first quarter for editing groups and
use of the planner for writing assignments. Independent reading is graded for
the amount of material read.
