Teen Living
This class is a semester exploratory course for all seventh graders. The course provides an opportunity to explore family and consumer science. The course includes instruction in the development of a positive self-concept, understanding personal growth and development, relationship with peers and family members, communication skills, clothing care and construction, good nutrition and basic food preparation, child care, and money and time management. Student must purchase one sewing kit for construction project selected by the teacher.
"Basic Life Skills"
Students in this course will gain knowledge and skills in home living and family action. Units will focus on skills needed by all family members. These include purpose of family, family and personal relationships , human development, parenting, child development, food and nutrition, housing and living environment, clothing needs, clothing purchase and construction, and resource management. students will be required to cover the cost of one clothing project.
"Child Development and Parenting"
This course will involve a study of human development, understanding the physical, mental, social, and psychological development of children, family interaction: for emotional, physical, social needs of its members, family in the community, identifying family cultures, concern for individuals with special needs as related to diet, housing, and practices. Observation of and actual experiences with children are integral parts of the program. The student will do the Baby Think It Over project and a project at the local preschool.
"Adult Living"
This course includes an evaluation of personal values and goals; analysis of human relationships, marriage and parenting; understanding of physical aspect and responsibilities of adulthood; family management; family finance; societal issues and job seeking skills.
Prerequisite: Grades 11-12
"Foods and Food Service"
This course will include a study of advanced nutrition, the relationship of nutrition to health and wellness, meal service, techniques of preparation and preservation, understanding the physiological and sociological aspects of food in our culture and other countries. Food selection, buying, and storing is discussed. Arrangement of the kitchen for efficiency and entertaining is also covered. This course also includes meal management to meet individual and family food needs and patterns of living; optimal use of the food dollar. A study of the food service industry includes quantity food techniques, customer service, safety and sanitation, menu planning, cost control, and careers in food service.

Fabric Art
This course offers students the opportunity to construct creations with fabric. Quilts, clothing or crafts will be sewn. Costs are the responsibility of the student.

Fashion and Textiles
This semester course prepares individuals to understand:
Ø The social, psychological, and physiological aspects of clothing and textiles;
Ø The nature and management of clothing and textile products;
Ø The selection, construction, maintenance, alteration, and renovation of clothing and textile products;
Ø The effect of consumer choices on the individual and family, as well as the clothing and textile industry.
The student will be required to cover the costs of fabric projects.
Housing and Home Furnishings
This semester class prepares individuals to understand the physiological, psychological and social aspects of housing, modern trends in housing, evaluation of floor plans and room arrangements in terms of needs and management, a study of types of housing, principles of home furnishing; equipment, and management. Students will be required to cover the cost of home environment (craft) project.
