We incorporate flexibility; strength and conditioning in our program to better prepare the students for a more physically fit lifestyle. We will be alternating jump rope skills, running and form running (emphasizing =good running form) every week. We also cover a wide variety of activities, hopefully making the class fun and informative. The three main areas that will be taught and reinforced during the year will be hand/eye coordination, balance and agility; the activities for the kindergarten through second grade will include low organized, non-competitive games and activities. The activities for grades third through fifth will include lead up games based on team sports.
Please have your child wear a pair of soft soled, non-marking basketball or tennis style shoes to class. An extra pair of shoes, kept at school, for physical education would be fine. (No sandals, hard soled shoes or boots or string less shoes, please.) The girls are to wear shorts, if they wear skirts or dresses.
If your child cannot participate in class due to illness or injury, please send a note letting us know when they will be able to participate again. (This will also help with recess.)
Your child is graded on the following three areas:
Participation--Are they taking part in the activities or are they sitting out regularly?
Attitude--How are they treating others in class?
Effort-- Are they trying as hard as they can?
Grading System:
Grades Kin. - 3rd--E=Excellent S=Satisfactory I=Improving U=Unsatisfactory
Grades 4th - 5th--Percent grades 0% - 100%
I will test 1st through 5th grade students in the fall and the spring to evaluate personal fitness levels. (These test results have no direct bearing on the individual!=s grade except for the effort put forth.) Each student is given a fitness profile to take home. You may keep these profiles and note any changes from the fall to spring. The ultimate goal is to improve from the fall to the spring; any improvement will reach that goal, if by one sit-up or one second in the endurance run. These reports score your child in relationship to national averages.
You are welcome to visit our class at any time and as often as you would like! Please contact the school the day before you wish to visit.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school.
