Grade Outline for Computer Art and Design
Individual Grading Components Percent
Studio Projects -These are weekly projects assigned over the semester that will cover a wide range of programs. The longer the project, the more weight is given toward your grade. Test Grades are given under this category.

Portfolio- 30%
Projects will be kept in a file or portfolio on the server. Students are asked to keep a printed version of their work and an electric file on disk or the server. They will also keep an updated web page of their creations as they work on each project.
Class Participation - 40%
Students will receive a daily class participation grade based on the following criteria. Being to class on time and working diligently on your art assignments for 40 minutes then spending ten minutes cleaning up after yourself will earn you 10 points. (50 points per week on average)
All work needs to be in on time to receive full credit. __________________________

Project list
Square problem (6)(using four flat squares of the same dimension, create a graphic image to express the meaning of each of the following words: order, increase, bold, congested, tension and playful.)4 by 4 in size at 150 dpi for print and copies made in jpeg at 72 dpi for web.
Road sign Designs (9) (create crossing sign for each of the following: Ant Farm, Paratrooper, Baseball Field, Target Area, Checkers Area, Fortune Teller, Nuclear Power Plant, Cardinal Crossing/ Country, Kite Flying Area) designs must be 4 by 4 72 dpi, jpeg / gif, yellow and black sign.
Text Art (4)(Create 4 simple designs of an object or shadow using only text to create the image, the picture is to be in black and white, 4 by 4 and 150 dpi for print and an additional 4 jpeg/gif copies for the web at 72 dpi, color may be used for the web)
Logo design/ Adobe illustrator. (1)(create a logo design for a local business using illustrator. 150 dpi and 4 by 4 to print, it maybe b/w or color)
Logo/ Photoshop 5.0 (4)(create 4 logo designs using only Photoshop. 150 dpi for print and make two copies at 72 dpi for the web in jpeg format)b/w or color optional.
Magazine Cover Photoshop and illustrator (1) (create a magazine cover using photoshop, illustrator and a digital camera with your own self portrait on the cover. The cover must look as real as possible, include upc label, date, stories etc. The cover may need to be printed at 150 dpi and saved in jpeg format and also make a 72 dpi copy for the web.
CD Cover/Design Combination Software (1) (create a CD package using different software, the package must have a front cover, an inside jacket and a back cover. package must include , group name,song titles, label, company and upc. This design may be a new design for an old group or a new group.)150 or better for print, jpeg format
Product Design Combo (1) (create a product label for a soft drink or sports drink to be printed out in color 2 labels printed, one for the actual bottle and one for the portfolio. Copy for the web 72 dpi jpeg/gif.)
Menu/Brochure (1) (create a menu front and back for the school cafeteria using information based on the schools actual menu. The menu must have front and back and folded in half. one sheet 4 print areas or pages. Text and photos a must. For print and web.)
Typography text lesson (1) (using text provided create a two page magazine layout using pagemaker to create a nice article for print Only.) Basic design and text wrap techniques.
Bryce 4/ animate a rocket (1) (this is just a basic intro to animation of a camera and the object. Use the rocket ship provided in Bryce.)1 - 2 seconds in length web ready.
Bryce 4 / Building Boolean objects (1) using positives and negatives.(create a flashlight using boolean cylinders both positives and negatives to create an animated working flashlight. The flashlight must illuminate and show the way in your animation. 2 - 3 seconds in length and web ready using Quicktime.)
Bryce 4/ Creating a building (1) (create a building or castle using boolean shapes then animate the camera to view your creation. 2- 3 seconds web ready.)This may take more files and will require building sections at a time. Save each section and copy and paste to build your castle.)
RayDream Animation/ Intro to animation (1) with RayDream Studio ( create an animation using Raydream Studio. Animate the space shuttle using programmed behaviors and commands. Also create multiple camera angles and special effects with the aid of Photoshop and Adobe Premiere.) Quicktime and web ready.
Basic Poser animation/using Mimic (1) Create a character that talks and moves using Poser and mimic to create an animated talking character. Basic voice animation and sound for a quicktime movie. Web based and possible video.
Adobe Premiere/Portfolio on CD format (1) Create a quicktime portfolio using Adobe Premiere to edit and view your creations for a CD or web presentation.
HTML/WEB Page (1) Create a basic Web page using HTML for a self promo web page. All images and animations will be placed into a web page you to design for the web. This will be located on the desktop of your computer and will be your final grade along with your actual portfolio folder of printed materials.
