DRESS CODE
St. Michael's has established a dress code for the following reasons:
How a person dresses will reflect on how that person feels about him/herself and how others will feel about him/her. As part of the school's mission of preparing our students for the future, determining what is appropriate dress is part of the learning process. A dress code reflects on the image of St. Michael's School and offers a sense of unity and equality among the student body. St. Michael's dress code is as follows:
Pants:
Solid colored (no stripes) black, navy blue, or khaki slacks, cargo pants, skirts, skorts, dresses, jumpers, capri's or cords are to be worn. No blue denim jeans, wind pants, or sweat pants will be allowed. Skirts, dresses, or jumpers are to be no more than 4 inches above the knee in length. Colder weather conditions will need appropriate dress accommodations (ex: tights and socks with skorts and skirts).
Shirts:
Solid colored (no stripes) white, navy blue, or red collared, polo, turtleneck, or mock turtleneck shirts must be worn. No button down the front shirts. St. Michael's crew-necked shirts may be worn but the logo must be the conventional or school generated logo. (School generated logos include the 50 year celebration t-shirts). Shirts must meet the pants - no gaps at waist. No sleeveless shirts are allowed. Only solid colored shirts (no figures or lettering) may be worn under dress code shirts.
Sweatshirts:
St. Michael's or solid color white, navy blue, or red sweatshirts may be worn. No logos other than St. Michael's. Hoodies may not be worn to class but may be worn to school as a coat or outer garment.
Sweaters:
White, navy blue, or red solid color sweaters are to be worn. They may be crew-necked, pullover, button down the front, zippered, cardigan, or v-necked. Sweaters should be worn with a collared shirt or turtleneck underneath. Fleece garments in solid white, navy blue, or red may also be worn to school.
Shorts, capri's, skorts:
Shorts, capri's, or skorts may be worn until October 31 in the fall and after April 1 in the spring. Khaki, navy blue, or black shorts are to be worn. No blue denim or athletic shorts. The shorts in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade must have at least a 4 inch inseam. Shorts in grades 5-8 must have at least a 5 inch inseam.
Shoes:
No flip- flops (typical of beachwear), crocs, or wheelies. Open toed sandals follow the "shorts" schedule with a reminder that on PE days the students need tennis shoes.
No special attire on certain days is allowed such as football jerseys on game days, Girl Scout or Cub Scout uniforms, or dress-up clothes on game days. Blue jeans may be worn to class field trips at the discretion of the teacher. The principal may waive the dress code policy due to weather or special school events (such as Spirit Days) at his/her discretion.
Students need to be dressed for the weather. Recess is scheduled every day and is outside if at all possible.
"Casual Day" includes jeans (no wind pants, jerseys, etc.) with an appropriate top.
If a student fails to dress according to the code, a form will be sent home addressing the problem.
